Democrats owe it to their constituents to not cave...They already caved way too much in early '25 with all of the egregious appointee confirmations in the Senate and on many other things throughout '25!!

If courts can be ignored without consequence, then separation of powers is just theater.

Dems and the Republicans who have opened their eyes BETTER NOT CAVE! There is no REASON TO WEAR MASKS IF THEY ARE ABIDING BY THE LAW AND CONSTITUTION

Sandra Blessman's avatar

That’s correct the people are not ice we are not going after their families. That’s one of the lame excuses they use to wear them. They are just cowards.

Health care people ask whether I'm depressed. Well . . . That's a loaded question. Are WE THE PEOPLE depressed or terrified? I believe that both are true. The current person occupying the White House is doing everything possible to frighten the citizens of these UNITED STATES. I'm an 82 year old woman and I remember vividly when President Kennedy was dealing with the situation with Cuba and holding my breath that Russia would back down before there was a nuclear war. We survived. Now the GANGSTER IN CHIEF is doing everything possible to destroy my home. Invoke Article 2 Section 4 of the CONSTITUTION to protect the WORLD!

I’m 77 and I’ve also remembered the Cuban missile crisis

My husband was on a Navy destroyer off the coast of Cuba for weeks..

I’m 72 and the Cuban missile crisis feels like yesterday. My dad and uncle sat in front of a radio for days. We were scared to death.

Thank you Elizabeth, I'm 80 and not so much frightened but angry as hell. We have no peace in our golden years..😥 I am worried for our children and grandchildren..

Adam, you called it as I and thousands see it. If you break the Law,esp. a federal employee there has to be legal consequences! Not administrative leave. Thats a slap in AMERICAS face.

What needs to happen is putting people in JAIL,and beginning at the top, with the cosplaying bitch in charge, and then working down to the most recent peons. We have to demand accountability, from the top down.Nothing less is remotely acceptable!

And don't even try to say there's no proof, the hell there isn't!!It's everywhere!Get this shit done, and make examples out of every single one of these thugs!

I will be completely surprised if the Democrats hold the line! Give more of this decision making to Jeffries and Schumer and we’re right back where we started.

Schumer you need to retire and sit in your rocking chair on your veranda, you’d do just as much good there as you do in the Senate. Jeffries, you’re not much better, for damn sure. I won’t hold my breath that you both won’t cave for some ridiculous, stupid reason.

Wanna call me a liar, then fucking stay the course…do the right thing…ALL THE FUCKING WAY!!!

Katil's avatar

We need to hold out til they cave or this will just get harder.

I live in a Blue State in a small, diverse city. ICE has been here, but in a low-key presence in the summer of 2025. We do not have a high crime rate, rarely are the criminals immigrants. So sick of the lies! We have a peaceful, respectful community! This madness in DHS must be stopped!!

Good post, Adam. But the following needs clarification:

You wrote: "If a government actor recklessly, knowingly, or purposefully violates someone’s constitutional rights, that should be a crime. Not an HR issue. Not an internal memo. A crime."

There is no "should" about this.

It IS a crime, according to the DOJ's very own website. Granted, this is on the DOJ Civil Rights Divison webpage, so maybe they forgot it even existed...

Quote:

"Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a *crime* (my emphasis added) for a person acting under color of any law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

For the purpose of Section 242, acts under "color of law" include acts not only done by federal, state, or local officials within their lawful authority, but also acts done beyond the bounds of that official's lawful authority, if the acts are done while the official is purporting to or pretending to act in the performance of his/her official duties. Persons acting under color of law within the meaning of this statute include police officers, prisons guards and other law enforcement officials, as well as judges, care providers in public health facilities, and others who are acting as public officials. It is not necessary that the crime be motivated by animus toward the race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status or national origin of the victim.

The offense is punishable by a range of imprisonment up to a life term, or the death penalty, depending upon the circumstances of the crime, and the resulting injury, if any."

Across the top of the same page is written "An official website of the United States government"

ICE and DHS need to be abolished. We need to take the hundreds of billions of dollars currently being spent on these agencies and find ways to improve our immigration laws. I think we all know that even if the rules are changed, ICE will not do anything differently than they are now. They don't think rules pertain to them. And what's going to happen to them if they do break the agreement? Are they really going to be held accountable? All of the funding needs to be clawed back and we need to start over with something better.

I was horrified seeing what these thugs were doing to the protesters in Minneapolis. A baby stopped breathing because of chemicals sprayed or tossed into the car of the parents. Fortunately, the baby lived.

Protesters turned out in minus 22 degrees in Minneapolis. Thank you to all the states that stood up and protested. What these creatures did with impunity is criminal as are the ones committed by this administration. ICE was sent to states to where no problems or riots going on. The ‘president’ was watching TV depicting rioting. He sent his goons to Seattle and asked if he was watching something else! A criminal with 34 felonies under his belt is supposed to lead this country is leading it toward destruction.

The Democrats have it in their power to stop the American Gestapo. They need to use that power now before they no longer have it.

ang mac's avatar

You all seem to blame the democrats for not doing enough they are in the minority its the repukeblicans that are allowing this to happen why are they not being held accountable they have enabled this they are the ones that have the majority votes they are to blame

And when they do have power? Biden and Garland are completely responsible for not prosecuting Trump for the televised insurrection and attempt to steal the election.

My understanding is this fund is for bonuses mainly . Even if dhs agree the terms of enhancing the rules of these agents , how do we know they will follow through. Idk , I'm not happy with funding them . Abolish it and redesign it with qualified trained people would be the solution.

Jo's avatar

Following the constitution would be a great start.

Kathy Price's avatar

Yeah, a $42,000 bonus for everyone at DHS when the average Christmas bonus is something like $1500, if you even get a Christmas bonus - many people don't.

DavidPageYea's avatar

If you work for lower wages, "Christmas bonus" is a foreign concept.
