I work in retail. The company is a bit "old school" as everything is individually ticketed. Much of our merchandise comes in pre-ticketed. I spent most of my days, since July 1st removing old tickets and re-ticketing a newer, higher price. Sometimes $1 or $2, but generally about 20%. Was $19.99, nope, now $24.99, was $249.99, nope, now $299.99. For anyone to say inflation is gone, they are in denial!
Annette, as unpleasant a task as this might be, you really should be reposting your cogent observation about the prices in a wider sphere, even unpleasant territory like X and flu social, specifically to get these ideas in front of those who are in denial. And I think we all understand that because you work in retail, to so many of THEM you are merely the gravel to be trampled underfoot, but the word should spread. I'll do it if you will let me copy and paste your content I think you should do it and I think we should all do it with as many pieces of critical information as we can.
I just read a maga comment, he says that's not true, I see prices going down.
These special ignorant people you will never get thru them. I had tried to tell them from the very beginning that trump was bas news (past business failures) but all I got was cussed at. Now you see maga farmers crying. Tough shit.
They "see prices going down" because they read it in their rightist echo chambers. But we can't just "tough shit" the weeping farmers, we have to bring them around to our perspective! I've seen examples of it starting, so we need to be supportive & they need to JOIN WITH us, now that they're feeling the pain, even if it's pain they've brought upon themselves, to be part of the unified response that gets these fuquers out of our nation, our life, and our world altogether!
Sorry but I have little faith that they will. If they haven't woken up yet they never will. They will blame everyone but Trump like they always do. They are so full of hate that they don't care how much they suffer as long as those they hate suffer more then they do.
I view it like trying to reason with an alcoholic. It's pointless until they are willing to admit they're dealing with a problem. At that point, it's worth bringing those weeping farmers some perspective. It can't be forced. Many of them will reconsider, but it's going to take some time, and they might need to feel some very serious pain before they are ready. And many will never admit they were conned,so give them space to change behavior. Some of us who have such folks and neighbors and family members may be called to do that work, but quite a lot of us won't get the opportunity, so we can stay busy dojng something else. I'm busy with mutual aid.
I have been paying higher prices at the grocery store for quite some time. When I mentioned this to my maga neighbor, he finally agreed with me, but his suggestion was that I start getting commodities. I am 83 and have a low income and definitely qualify. That was not where I was stirring the conversation. I will not apply for commodities because without these tariffs, I was able to make it on my own and there are people with families that need it more than I do. The day might come with this regime that I might have to. This shouldn't be happening - there is no excuse that is acceptable, other than the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer. Just what this regime is trying to do. Wipe out the poor, the old and make this country for the rich only.
Bold of him to suggest commodities when social programs are being slashed. I have a neighbor like that, too, with very selective thinking. I feel how you do, I worry more about people feeding children, but it's stressful to see food prices doubled living on a limited income. I am really sick of hearing my neighbor say prices keep going up, people are getting worse, but what are you going to do? REALLY sick of it, because so much of it is a direct result of the selective thinking, repeating bullshit because it's convenient, & not taking responsibility for how you vote.
It's unfortunate, but it seems like we all have neighbors that are like that. To the one's that say but what are you going to do I say get off your a_s and protest, write letters, make phone calls and let your voices be heard. Quit being a couch potato and join in the fight to save our country. Kathy - have a blessed day.
They are all to stupid to understand . Trump the sociopath plays the shell game confusing the F out of them . There leader would never lie. Sorry great that the independent media tells the truth but is the outcome of the national guards in 19 states . Let see how we stop that even with judges court order just researchTrump for the last 40+ years and it tells all .
Think about it. That special switch that keeps an appliance running will cost more, making the appliance cost more initially and to repair. Everything is getting more expensive.
☕️ COFFEE:! Late August One year ago a 2# can of Folgers (and other similar brands) were $7-$9. Then several months ago they increased to $12-$15 with various sales !around $10+/- as recently as Aug 11. On the 23rd, that same can is now $21. The tariffs have kicked in and will only get worse
We are in Detroit this August, as we usually are. And this week we went to Windsor to see the Aviation Museum (5 stars) and while we were there we picked up 6 cans of Tim Horton's coffee at the Costco to import back in tariff free.
Very gratified as a new subscriber. However, I continue to find that despite your thorough reportage, it remains within The closed loop, Preaching to the choir, Reverberating in The echo chamber, hell, fill in the list of as many more clichés about this as you can think of. I doubt anyone reading your columns or watching your videos is surprised by much of what you've written. We've all heard & know what you're talking about. The bigger dilemma is getting these critical perspectives SPREAD, is how to get crucial writing such as yours disseminated OUT OF OUR CLOSED CIRCLE & INTO THE WIDER DISCOURSE!

“Prices after tariffs would be the same.”
That is not what was promised - prices need to go down in order to reduce food costs as an example. We were promised cheaper food and gas.
I don’t know whether the sane among us Expected it to work, but it was promised.
Tariffs are a tax on what people buy.
Release the unredacted epstein/ trump files and information.

Just had major garage door repairs. Nearly fainted dead over re cost. Sure as hell noticeable to our family.
Add to your list fabric prices! Not only for apparel companies, but also home and small business stores.
