Lost all credibility on this conversation, or in general? Because Ted Cruz lost all credibility with anyone that matters years ago. All he has left are those eejits who believe that they would rather have an authoritarian King or Putin running the U.S. than any Democrat! What fools these people are - living in a mind fog of brain washing that they seemingly cannot break free from. They have no idea of the mind-control that they are under while the rest of us see it oh so clearly.

Wake up MAGAs... You are being mind-controlled and manipulated by rich people who will sacrifice you in a heartbeat for one more dollar.

Tedd Cruz NEVER had any credibility. Tucker Carlson is a snake, but he's right. Nothing I love better than seeing the Trump sycophants devouring each other in front of a camera.

However, We're marching right into World War III and I'm not really seeing a whole lot on corporate media talk about this incredibly dangerous situation. Democrats need to be screaming about losing our country and allowing a fascist dictator to call the shots right now. Hegseth at the helm of our armed services, with Trump as the president, is an incredible nightmare.

Can’t believe this! I never cared for Carlson as he distorts and lies, as does Cruz, but to have a sitting senator verbally be so ignorant is beyond me. Cruz needs to resign and Carlsons need to retire and disappear πŸ«₯

There are intelligent people in TX. I know one. Cruz is not among that cohort, never was, has consistently embarrassed himself and TX, and, imho, never has had a shred of credibility to lose. But at the hands of Tucker efn Carlson? Seriously? Another noncredible entity? Two more damaged, incomplete people desperate for attention. But, somehow, it's all the Democrats' fault. Wait for it.

laura oshea's avatar

So why is Cruz the sitting Senator? Are Texans so lazy and unconcerned that they are OK with this level of incompetence??? Everybody needs to be paying attention folks!!!?!?!?

SLMontgo's avatar

And that, Laura, is the real question. We know good candidates have run against him, candidates I would be pleased to vote for if they were running in my blue state. Yet, there he and his ignorance stand, embarrassing TX. Is there even one red-voting Texan reading here who might shed some light on this for us?

Mrs LL's avatar

I too know intelligent people who reside in TEXAS. However, they wouldn't bother lowering themselves to be in the company or vicinity of Cruz and his cohorts. Especially when Tucker looks like the sensible one in this situation.

As for blaming the Democrats for everything...... well... the Democrats are the soft target because they don't exactly fight back against what's said about them. Nor do they actively stick together as a party to vote down any of the ridiculous bills put forward in Congress and don't vote against the confirmations of the incapable people that are put up by the rep#3licu^t$.

Gov Gavin Newsom is rebounding the muck that's been thrown at him and is doing an excellent job of it. He's certainly NOT a soft target that can be blamed for any rep#3licu^t'$ failures.

That's how it looks to an Aussie who's on the other side of the planet.

People have asked as to why I've invested in following US Politics at this particular point in time when I've not been invested previously. There's a saying ~ 'When the US sneezes, the rest of the world catches a cold.' This means ~ what a US President does can effect US allies. Doubt I have to explain anything, except say "Look at Australia's geographical location on a world map and look at what IS and what ISN'T around this island continent."

Expand full comment
SLMontgo's avatar

Thank you. Your viewpoint is very valuable for us in these insular times. The thing I believe is that Republicans seem to a person to value money over all else. The Democrats value improving lives above all else. There is only one way to make gobs of money; hence, the unity of Republicans. There are as many ways to improve lives as there are people who want to improve lives. Therefore, we get a bunch of factions that the Republicans and "independents" like to sneer at and mock. FDR was stymied in his effort to pack the SCOTUS. The Heritage Foundation was not.

Thanks for the reply.

This will be be a long posting.

Just to understand the same & differences by explaining πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Australian politics here.

I understand the US right wing as they are pretty much similar to the AU right wing (Liberal Party & colour is blue). The Libs here favour everything big business and profits $$$ much more than anything else.

They sell off government operations for quick cash to put the budget into the black AFTER they've given their consulting friends $squillions in fees that the Federal and/or State Government departments could have done even more efficiently than those corporate consulting firms could have done.

The only differences between the US and AU is that the media and the voters here in OZ (slang for AU) very much so hold the lies and untruths of the right wing(nuts) accountable.

The Labor Party (majority is centre-left and their colour is red) cares more about improving people's lives and ensuring that all services (govt & private) are working as they should be. They also want any govt services working efficiently and give value for money. They know that it's tax payer's money which funds and drives these services. They believe in Medicare (universal health), and that principles matter.

https://alp.org.au/our-history/labor-party-history/

There's also many minor perties and now many TEALs or Independants as Aussies are fed up with both major parties.

There's now a legal limit as to how much can be donated to an individual and to a party. Every cent must be accountable in the public arena. There's also the court of public opinion as to how much is donated to advertising during an election campaign. The Australian Public was highly offended and strongly voiced their opinion when they found out how much was spent campaigning at the last election at social media websites. The main objection was that this money could have been better spent fixing the public hospital surgery wait list.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04-11/major-parties-spend-1-4-million-on-online-ads/105161684

When you read about the amounts spent here compared to in the US, you'd be wondering why Aussies call out these amounts. Also, the campaigning length for a federal or state election here is around 6 weeks and us Aussies think that's too much time. If it was 2 or 3 weeks, that'd be perfect. Voting is compulsory for State & Federal elections and for Referendums. It's a 'Right of Passage' to enroll to vote and something to look forward to. All voting at the polls is done on a Sturday from 8am to 6pm and usually at schools, churches and/or local halls. After voting there's the perusing of the charity/school stalls selling home made cakes/crafts etc and of course there's the BBQ Democracy Sausage to be bought. You can also vote early at many places. Too easy.

Politicians here KNOW that they are Public Servants and know that if they don't do their job properly they WILL BE VOTED OUT. Ther's also LAWS requiring Politicians to declare their private financial interests, property interests including business ownership and income, to the relevant parliamentary body.

This includes details about the nature of the business, its ownership structure, and the income received from it. This is available to the public through FOI.

Judges here are NON political and they earn their positions on the Bench through their own dedication and hard work. Same with the Police etc. Our lives or jobs in OZ are not determined by our political views.

There's an old adage here in OZ about the 3 things that are never to be discussed outside of the home, especially with people you do not know ~ Sex, Religion & Politics. πŸ˜„ 🀣

The Australian Electoral system is the envy of the world in some circles and especially at this point in time may seem perfect when comparing it to what is happening elsewhere.

HOWEVER, it does have its own failings which need to be fixed and our system wouldn't work in other countries at all. Every country has their own way of dealing with their own elections and it is their choice IF they want to change anything.

Oh my giddy Aunt!

I started off by just explaining the same differences between our respective political parties and then started rabbiting on..... πŸ˜„

OZ hovers around 26 million citizens, less than our State of California (aprx 39 million) by which many things are measured. The US is around 340 million. This means you guys are nearly all on a first-name basis while we likely don't know our neighbors (for dedicated hermits like myself, I dread knowing my neighbors). Btw, I like squillions as a measure of money. I shall use that, I suspect.

Ah, Cali, the state our nation loves and hates. I live north of Cali. My own remote state of Washington has a mere 8'ish million. The state between us, Oregon, a mere 4'ish million. We are the West Coast. Before I had to stop traveling, I'd be down to San Francisco four to six times a year. It's my favorite place to photograph and be left alone.

The reason this took me so long to reply to is that, due to Substack, I get a lot of email, far more than when I was working. Far more than before I joined Substack. I needed a clear head to appreciate your information. I believe I easily would be a TEAL.

One of the reasons (too many to count) I hate Trump/MAGA et al is that I am consumed in news/opinion/legal analysis all day long when I could instead be playing with my photos or other non-politics fun things that I had thought I'd be doing in retirement. I had a good year and a half of that and then that despicable bastard descended his tacky gold escalator and took us all straight to hell. That wasn't enough for MAGA and here we are again. I absolutely insist on surviving this endless shitshow and go back to doing what I do best: whatever I want. I am too deeply invested in this present destruction to just step back. It cannot be ignored. I don't understand the people who can ignore it, who don't understand what we have lost to the dark money psychopaths and raving psuedo-religious nutjobs who primarily hate women and all non-white people. It's a disgusting cesspool, more like a cess ocean. We may already be past the point of no return.

Mrs. LL, please cherish your nation and don't let it become what we have become. Thank you for your lovely long reply.

Dear SLMontgo,

strumpty was the reason for our change in federal Government.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/elections/federal-election-2025

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-11/australians-changed-vote-federal-election/105272214

The 'fearful leader' (AKA right wing-nut) who was previously in charge of OZ, lost his seat in Fed Parliament as well as his party's place due to his adoration of that 🍊 cult POS (piece of πŸ’©). Blind Freddy could see exactly what was happening and what was going to happen and us Aussies didn't want that Kool-aid because we like our Beer too much!

Unless the Federal, State and local Council governments actively do something about Climate Change then with the overpopulation of OZ as it is now, the temps are expected to go up another 3-5C degrees in the next 10 years. As a country which is in drought most of the time, the land can not sustain a high population. 90% of OZ is either desert or arid country. 95% of the population live in pockets along the coastline.

If Perth, Western Australia doesn't increase its tree canopy by 60% in the next 5 years many bird species will be in strife.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/apr/07/from-blackening-skies-to-barely-casting-a-shadow-the-carnabys-cockatoo-faces-a-bleak-future

The Libs here think climate change doesn't matter because it's all about the economy. You can't have an economy without an environment. The tourist industry here very much relies on the environment as Australia's flora, fauna and landscapes are unique.

Enjoy your weekend.

Expand full comment
SLMontgo's avatar

But "the Libs" here DEMAND climate change remediation, support it, have for years. "Liberal" means that in the USA. It's the alleged "Conservatives --->MAGA who hate anything that would improve everyone's lives by saving the planet from ever increasing temperatures. All they want is profit to improve their own lives in the moment, future be damned.

As you said, "The (REPUBLICANS) here think climate change doesn't matter because it's all about the economy. You can't have an economy without an environment."

Mother Nature shall have her revenge.
