I recently listened to an interview by a doctor who brought up the idea that if we did have national Healthcare with no insurance companies in the middle the gov. would be able to negotiate directly with healthcare providers just like they currently do for Medicare. Not only would it cost less and the healthcare providors get paid more, we could have better coverage. As it is insurance companies are pocketing billions per year of what we pay.
