We need to stop funding government run death squads with our tax dollars and start taxing the church.

Don’t be sending in fed money to use against us!

This wasn’t chaos or people looking for a fight. It was neighbors showing up so harm couldn’t happen quietly. Fear only works when people are isolated, and that isolation just didn’t hold. People stayed present. They watched. They stood with one another.

There’s something deeply grounding about that kind of response. No escalation, no spectacle. Just collective visibility. And once everything is out in the open, intimidation loses its power.

This matters beyond Minneapolis. It reminds us that communities aren’t powerless, and that authority weakens when it depends on fear instead of consent.

That’s the part that lingers for me.

Sitting and watching them beat people is the dumbest thing you can do.

De arrest, intervene, fight back

Catharine Farkas's avatar

Absolutely NOT! That is EXACTLY what Drumpf wants so that he has a "valid" excuse to declare martial law.

Majesterial Joy's avatar

It is already martial law

I noticed a great mix of older and younger people at the protests. The older experienced protest sit in people helping the younger people learn peaceful protesting art. What a wonderful coalition.

Screw that, your doormat parades don't work, you fed

Susan Theriault's avatar

Let’s get rid of ICE permanently!

Debbie Redling's avatar

That’s how it should be done!!

The regimes “violent protests” narrative is not adding up for them!

Majesterial Joy's avatar

You're an idiot. Physical resistance is what will work

Debbie Redling's avatar

Then you would be playing right into Stephen Miller and Trumps hands!! They are salivating at the chance to declare martial law. They have wet dreams about it!

Remember in Trumps last term he was telling his generals to shoot people in the knees!! Millers whole ideology is about hurting and torturing people who don’t comply!

Like it or not most of MAGA, the Proud Boys of The January 6th 2020 insurrection and every White Christian Nationalist is signing up for ICE! These people are untrained, unqualified, uneducated and trigger happy! They can’t wait for us to give them a reason! Don’t give them a reason!

I get the frustration at slow moving wheels though! I do

We ALREADY HAVE MARTIAL LAW

Not even close yet.

LII Wex martial law

martial law

Martial law–also called martial rule–is a type of jurisdiction in which military authority temporarily replaces civil authority. As stated in the 1998 case of Mudd v. Caldera, martial law authorizes the military to exercise the responsibilities of branches who are unable to function, such as the legislature, executive branch, or the courts. This is usually in response to war, natural disaster, or civil unrest, and is limited to such times of emergency; as such, at the conclusion of the instigating circumstance, martial law must end and the civil authority resumed. Martial law has been declared in several countries throughout history, recently in Ukraine and the Philippines

In the United States, martial law can be declared on a national level by the President or Congress, or within the borders of a particular state by that state’s governor. Martial law was first declared in New Orleans, Louisiana by then General Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812. Since then, it has been declared multiple times, notably by President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War and by Governor Poindexter in Hawaii following the attacks on Pearl Harbor during World War II. According to E. W. Killam’s Martial Law in Times of Civil Disorder, martial law has been declared nine times since World War II, most often in response to resistance of desegregation decrees during the Civil Rights era.

Martial law differs from military law, as was clarified in the 1924 case of Bishop v. Vandercook. Military law–which involves the organization, government, and discipline of troops–applies only to those individuals who are in military service. While a citizen can be governed by martial law, they cannot be governed by military law. As such, military personnel under a time of martial law must still act in accordance with civil law. Further, citizens who have been wronged by the improper exercise of military power retain the right seek remedies for that harm

STOP this nonsense! We must remain peaceful. General strikes are the next escalation.

No. It's too late for that.

You are a wonderful writer and reporter, Adam. I so respect your debate abilities. I get flustered and emotional and don't effectively make my point when attempting a debate - so I much admire your skill set. Please keep up your excellent work.

Nowhere does say in the job description of an ICE agent that it includes killing American citizens on the streets of America, harrassing protesters or terrorizing American citizens by going door to door in masks. Moreover, their job details specifies that they must work with local officials and police.

Call your representatives. ICE is obviously not doing the job the Congress approved them to do.

Yeah, that goes on behind closed doors I’m sure! They have no business running around with guns, trigger happy little creeps that they are walking around like they are really something, big shots in their own eyes and cowards playing lawman on everyone else’s eyes. Someday this will be over and I wonder what they think will happen then? Awards? No…prison time and I hope they get life!!

Kate D's avatar

I still don't understand why ICE even has guns. Despite being 'federal' they do about as much "law enforcement" as security guards. These people aren't tracking down criminals in dangerous situations. A security guard in a hospital is in more danger than an ICE officer. Hell, I'm in more danger on a daily basis than an ICE officer, and I work with children. People with less protection go into more dangerous situations all the time and come out unscathed because they can't just shoot their way out of it.
