I heard that after Nixon removed the informal guardrails around DOJ, Ford appointed an AG who put more thorough informal guardrails back in place, and apparently two generations thought “there, all fixed”. Then Trump removed them. If the republic survives this, I hope we’ll have learned our lesson: checks and balances belong in the Constitution. Short of that, a statute plus a Supreme Court decision rejecting the unary executive theory (which would hold that the statute is unconstitutional, just like longstanding civil service protections) would be a big improvement.

Trump has gone completely off the rails and needs to be removed from office. The longer the Republicans in Congress wait the more of them will be voted out of office. This refers to not only the House of Representatives but also includes the Senate where up to one third of the Senate members are up for reelection. That could easily bring about the 67 votes needed to impeachment the President and his cabinet.
One huge problem- Vance would be worse in many ways because he’s just as unhinged and soulless but can sound sane… and Miller, Vought, Hegseth, Bondi, Noem and Kennedy ALL have to GO, too!
And if Vance were impeached before a new VP was confirmed, what are the chances that a President Mike Johnson wouldn’t just do whatever Steven Miller wanted, or whatever Trump wanted, even if neither were in office?
