Hey friends—just wrapped up a fiery debate on a MAGA Newsmax show, and I wanted to break down how I pushed back in real time. The show is named National Report, and I was debating a dude named Rob Astorino—a former GOP politician turned right-wing pundit that floats Soros conspiracies on national TV. The topic? Everything from Trump’s tantrums over George Clooney to billionaires like Elon Musk using their power to prop up right-wing narratives.
I find it incredibly important that democrats go into right-wing spaces and respectfully push back on their ideas, presenting our own as a better alternative. Everyone was angry when Gavin Newsom basically fawned over Charlie Kirk throughout their entire interview. It angered me as well, but mainly because this was a perfect opportunity to push back and present our ideals as a perfect alternative, but instead, Gavin Newsom just gave him a platform with little pushback.
So instead of letting them hijack the conversation with distractions and deflections, I kept pressing on the core issues: the chaos Trump caused, the dangerous influence of billionaires in politics, and the fact that even they can’t bring themselves to call Trump’s presidency a success—Astorino literally called it “incomplete.” I pushed back on the lies, the spin, and the gaslighting.
