As a freshman in high school I beefed with my history teacher. He was a proud Klan member and my bus driver. When we started the section on the Holocaust he showed the movie with the survivor returning to Auschwitz. After the movie ended he proceeds to tell us that the Holocaust was propaganda and. Never happened and the fight was on. I would say that we exchanged words but I took up most of the remaining class time. Mom had to come to school and I spent the rest of the year walking to school. Worth it.
You need to be proud of yourself and your choices in life. I’m 72 and always excelled in my life choices and a bit of a weirdo. Was a forklift driver in a union shop and union official back in the 80’s to raise my 2 kids and help my sick mom. UAW sent me to school and always grabbed education when provided with employment. Later got accounting degree after back injury and switched to office jobs. Grab all that employer benefits education in life. Ended my Career at phone company and did free business management classes…be proud of your career accomplishments
Or be humbled because no one for the last 35 yrs knows that feeling……..that was your generation. That hasnt existed in decades now. GONE w the wind and white.

The closest private school is an hour away so I founded and operate an alternative education setting (I’m a certified teacher with a masters degree). I do not idly complain about something unless I’m willing to work toward changing it.
Donald Trump appointed Betsy DeVoss as Education Secretary in his first term & some equally horrible piece of shit in this term.
It must suck. To work so hard to change education for the better, while your POTUS, Supreme Court, & Congress are systematically dismantling it from the top down so that only rich people's kids can afford an education — even then in this profit-based system the kids only get fucking stupider.
I left the classroom in 2022 completely disheartened by the lack of resources and support for the kids. I am also a K-12 tutor and have high schoolers reading on a 2nd-3rd grade level because they just got pushed on without remediation. I had classes of 25 students and now I support 50. In my alternative day program I offer scholarships because I believe that education should be for everyone and I did not set out to undermine public school or create something for an elite few. I’m trying to help as many as I can. Public school is systematically being dismantled and it’s going to take a grass roots effort to save it or, at the very least, educate the kids. A society that reads at a 4th grade level is not sustainable.
