For decades, the Republican Party has claimed a monopoly on fiscal responsibility in Congress, arguing that they are the ones who can balance the budget, grow the economy and rein in out-of-control spending. Yet history favors Democrats when it comes to fiscal policy.
Since World War II, GDP growth under Democrats has averaged 4.1%, compared with 2.5% under Republicans. Democrats have added more than 70 million jobs, compared with 30 million under Republicans. The stock market has performed better, with an average annual gain of 11.2% under Democrats, compared with 6.9% under Republicans. Even on the deficit, Democrats have fared better, with an average of 2.1% of potential GDP, compared with 2.8% under Republicans.
I could go on. It was Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt who implemented the New Deal to save the economy from Republican-imposed tariffs, foreign policy decisions and austerity measures. It was Barack Obama who had to repair the damage done by George W. Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation efforts and out-of-control deficit spending. And it was Joseph R. Biden who had to rescue the economy from a recession after Donald Trump enacted tax cuts, tariffs and excessive deficit spending.
Yet we lost on the economy.
Voters viewed Donald Trump as better suited to handle the economy, 54%-45%, and the economy ranked as the top issue for registered voters—not just as the most important issue, but at the highest level since the 2008 recession. None of this makes logical sense, but then again, Trump supporters often defend him by claiming he works outside logic, playing 4D chess we’re all too simple-minded to understand.
Well, facts don’t care about your feelings.
Twenty. Dollar. Eggs.
Our president is a shameless charlatan who spent the entire campaign lamenting $7 eggs as a nationwide issue, saying no one could afford groceries anymore and promising to lower prices on Day One. But once elected to do just that, he passed the blame off to Joe Biden while claiming that egg prices were down.
Not only is Trump ignoring the effect of bird flu on the egg supply—and his own role in the issue by pulling out of the very organization studying how to control bird flu—but he is also overlooking the fact that this is a symptom of big corporations taking advantage of workers. Rather than admit he was wrong and act in the best interest of the American people, he would rather dictate his own version of the truth and expect everyone to accept it.
Here is the price of eggs since Donald Trump took office, it reached a high on March 5th at an average of 8.17 and has since absolutely plummeted to nearly half at 4.89. Whether that drop will last to supply all the Easter egg hunts remains to be seen, but despite this drop consumers are still seeing rising prices—probably because corporations are price gouging.
The very issue Kamala Harris campaigned on.
I don’t think there’s enough educated people in America to change its course towards dictatorship and get a democratic government back
