A 4th of July Message
We are going to reclaim this country.
Hi everyone, Adam Mockler here.
I wanted to write you all a special message on the Fourth of July.
Today marks the 250th anniversary of the United States. It’s a day to celebrate this country… but it’s also a day for introspection.
A day to think about what America could be, what we’re building toward, and what we still have to fix.
I’m someone who believes America is a great country, but for a different reason than Republicans.
I don’t think America’s greatness comes from pretending we’ve always been perfect. I think our greatness comes from our ability to improve. It comes from our diversity, the strength of our institutions, and the opportunity they create for people from every background to reach their full potential.
My grandfather moved here from Syria in the late 1980s. He’s Muslim. Since arriving in America, he built a thriving business in Indiana. To me, that’s the American Dream.
It’s the idea that people of different races, religions, backgrounds, sexes, and identities can build a better life than the one they started with. That where you were born shouldn’t determine where you end up. America is supposed to be the land of opportunity.
That’s why I’m so frustrated watching Republicans chip away at that promise and push our country toward a more authoritarian, more regressive future.
Today, on the Fourth of July, I’m standing for a better America.
I’m standing for diversity.
I’m standing for an America that celebrates the richness of the lived experiences of the people who call this country home.
Today, members of Patriot Front, a white supremacist extremist group, marched on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. They represent a vision of America that looks backward instead of forward.
We’re not going to let that become the future of this country.
We’re going to stand up against authoritarianism, against white supremacy, and against the politics of division. We’re going to keep fighting for a country that celebrates people instead of fearing them. A country that expands freedom instead of restricting it. A country that lives up to its highest ideals.
